Traffic stops can create a stressful situation for Autistic individuals and for police officers who may not understand Autistic traits. The Massachusetts State Police and many other state and local police departments across the country have adopted an optional program called the Blue Envelope initiative with a goal to prepare both Autistic individuals and police officers for interactions with each other at traffic stops.

In Massachusetts, participation is completely voluntary, and no record is kept identifying individuals as Autistic. Read the details of the Massachusetts State Police program for further information and to request an envelope. (View Sample Envelope)
