As many as 73-81% of Autistic adults have at least one mental health diagnosis. Given this staggering statistic, understanding how to promote mental health and wellbeing for the Autistic community is more important than ever.
This workshop will help participants deepen their understanding of the unique mental health experiences of Autistic individuals, build a neurodiversity-affirming framework for understanding Autistic mental health, and discuss considerations for supporting Autistic individuals navigating mental health challenges.
Please note that while the webinar will be recorded for future reference, attendees must be present for the live session on 2/6 in order to qualify for CE credits.

Janet Barbieri, MSW, LICSW, AANE Deputy Director
Janet Barbieri, MSW, LICSW is the Deputy Director at the Association for Autism and Neurodiversity (AANE). Janet earned her master’s in social work from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. Prior to joining AANE Janet held numerous roles in therapeutic day and residential school settings dedicating her clinical practice to supporting neurodiverse adolescents, young adults and their families as they navigate together this unique developmental stage. Janet enjoys cooking, growing vegetables and wildflowers in her backyard, and spending time with her two kids.
Learning Objectives:
1. Define neurodiversity-affirming care.
2. List 2-3 mental health challenges that Autistic people experience at a greater rate than non-Autistic/Allistic individuals.
3. Describe 1-2 neurodiversity-affirming strategies that can be utilized to support Autistic mental health.

AANE can offer participants reduced or free program registration. As long as space remains, no one requesting financial aid will be turned away. To request financial aid, send an email to [email protected]. For example:

Refund Policy for Social & Support Groups
AANE will refund support group or social activity registration fees in the following circumstances:
– AANE cancels a group.
– AANE reschedules a group and a registrant can no longer participate.
– If a registrant requests a refund at least 3 business days before the start date of a support group or social activity.

All groups are online unless noted
Multi-Session – register once for multiple sessions with the same participants in groups or workshops
Single Session – register for one session or event, includes groups, webinars, workshops, or special events
LOCAL [City, State] in front of the event/group name is intended for those living in the vicinity of the indicated area. If LOCAL is not indicated, the event is available to those living anywhere
Codes of Conduct
Participants at AANE events are expected to act respectfully toward other participants and group facilitators. AANE reserves the right to deny admission, ask an individual participant to leave, or remove participants from the event/program for inappropriate or disrespectful behavior.
