Research Study Description

My name is Benjamin Ani, and I am a doctoral student at National University. I am conducting an online qualitative descriptive study on the impact of respite care on the quality of life of parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. To participate, you must be 18 years or older, live in the State of Maryland, be a parent or caregiver of a child clinically diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who is at least 6 years old, and not more than 21 years old, and the child currently in your care. The survey is voluntary, consisting of about 10 questions that are expected to take about 30 minutes to complete. The questions asked relate to the participant’s state, age, number of children, relationship to children, educational level, employment status, race, age of your child(ren) with autism, support you receive, type of support you receive, your experience caring for your child with autism, associated stress, support services available to you, and how it affects your quality of life. if you receive respite care and how it affects your stress and quality of life and suggestions for improvement.
This qualitative, descriptive study examines the parental perception of respite care services/support on the quality of life of parents/caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorder in Maryland. This study which is online and voluntary intends to describe parents’ descriptions of their experiences in caring for their child/children with autism who receive respite care services and the effect on their quality of life. It is therefore expected to add to the knowledge base in the education and caregiving community, enable administrators to develop and implement programs that will resolve stress, and enhance access and effectiveness in the administration of respite care and other services for this population. The study may also inform practitioners and policymakers seeking to implement appropriate programs and services necessary to help parents/caregivers of children with autism. A $25 award is available for this survey. Thank you for your time.
