Description
This is an 8-week 7-week seminar that includes the content of four of our most popular workshops: Introduction to Autism, Hacks, Strategies, and Supports, Understand Masking, and Understanding Burnout, with the added benefit of community and discussion. While these workshops are typically delivered “webinar style,” this group will include a community of others looking to dive into and reflect on the content. Sessions will alternate between presentations and deep discussion. This group is great for someone who is just uncovering an autistic identity, someone new to AANE, someone who has attended these presentations previously, and is looking for deeper exploration, or anyone looking to discuss these concepts in depth.
Below are descriptions of each of the workshops included in this series:
Introduction to Autism
A presentation and discussion for autistic adults to come and explore their understanding of autism through a neurological lens. We will discuss common misconceptions, the autistic identity, and common autistic traits, strengths, and challenges. You might enjoy this presentation and discussion if you are newly diagnosed (medically or self), or if you have only explored autism through a deficit lens in the past.
Hacks, Strategies, and Supports
As a follow up to our Intro to Autism workshop, this 90 min workshop will go through practical ways autistic adults can find the support that they need. We will discuss how to determine what you need, and then some practical ideas on how to meet those needs. This will include possible service providers and how to find them, as well as some hacks and strategies that might work for you.
Understanding Masking
Join us for this 90 minute workshop on masking crafted for and by autistic adults. We’ll unpack the pressures and motivations behind masking, explore its emotional impact, and touch on the nuanced gender differences. Learn more about the implications of consistently concealing autistic traits and the quest for spaces where we can be our authentic selves. Connect with a community that understands the intricacies of living neurodiverse lives.
Understanding Burnout
This workshop is designed to provide autistic individuals, caregivers, educators, and clinicians with insights into navigating autistic burnout, emphasizing prevention and recovery in a supportive setting. We’ll explore the roots and effects of burnout, sharing practical advice for managing it. Participants will learn to spot early signs and adopt strategies that foster well-being. Recovery options will highlight the power of self-care and community resources. A Q&A session will encourage open dialogue, allowing everyone to share experiences and solutions, building a network of support.
