Description
A practical, neurodiversity-affirming workshop for coaches focused on helping autistic and similarly neurodivergent adults build confidence, safety, flexibility, and independence in community travel.
Participants will learn how to break travel into manageable steps, support executive functioning and emotional regulation needs, create individualized safety and problem-solving plans, and use tools such as visual supports, technology, and scaffolded practice. Through real-life examples and interactive resources, coaches will leave with strategies they can immediately apply with clients using public transportation, rideshares, walking routes, and more.
Speaker:
Nicole Kloss, OTD, OTR/L is the LifeMAP Coach Supervisor at AANE, where she oversees and supports a team of coaches working with neurodivergent adults through a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming model. Nicole is a licensed occupational therapist with a passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals with executive functioning, self-advocacy, and life transitions. She has a background in public education, recreational therapy, and project management and has over 10 years of experience supporting autistic individuals and their families across a range of settings. In addition to her role at AANE, Nicole serves as an adjunct clinical faculty member in the Occupational Therapy Department at Western New England University. In this role, she supervises doctor of occupational therapy (OTD) students at a virtual, student-led clinic and helps prepare future clinicians through experiential learning and mentorship. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys crafting, spending time outdoors with her three daughters, and volunteering at a local nonprofit surf therapy organization.
