Research Study Description

Research Opportunity for Autistic College Students and Graduates

Are you a current or former college student who identifies as autistic and has taken a hybrid flexible (HyFlex) course—a class that allowed you to choose to participate in-person, online, or independently? If so, I’m inviting you to share your insights. I am a doctoral student at Old Dominion University who is conducting a study of autistic students’ experiences with HyFlex college classes.

Why Your Experience Matters
HyFlex classes are intended to improve accessibility in higher education. However, there is limited research on whether they fully meet the unique needs of autistic students. By participating, you can help determine what works well—and what might need improvement—to better support neurodiverse learners.

Eligibility to Participate
I am seeking 25 participants for this study. To participate, you must:
● Identify as autistic
● Be 18 years of age or older
● Have taken at least one HyFlex college class

What Participation Involves
● Survey: The study starts with an online survey explaining the purpose, data use, and privacy protections. It includes 16 questions that should take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete.
● Interview: After the survey, you’ll be invited to schedule a 45-to-60-minute Zoom interview.
● $25 Amazon gift card after completing the survey and interview

Your Commitment and Privacy
Participation is voluntary and confidential. While your survey answers will be coded for research purposes, your responses will not be individually identifiable in the study’s reported results.

If you’re interested in contributing to this important work, please click on the study’s link to view the consent form, start the survey, and schedule an interview. Your input could make a real difference in making higher education more accessible for autistic students.
