Description
Traditionally school prepares you to work towards a specific career (doctor, lawyer, politician, scientist, teacher, etc.), but increasingly these jobs are hard to achieve and hard to get or keep. An alternative method of being employed so you get paid enough to cover your life-expenses is called a portfolio career. This is when someone has several unrelated jobs or multiple streams of income. For example, they might be a delivery driver, work in a restaurant, and teach a yoga class on different days and times during the week.
By trying out part time versions of jobs, you might find you really like one over the others, and decide to develop that career more, or start your own business in that industry. It can also help you to manage your energy or health levels as you can control how much or how little you can work according to your capacity.
Come to learn about this increasingly popular approach to employment, which can provide more flexibility in terms of the types of part-time jobs that are available, control and security (if you leave or lose one of your three jobs, you still have income coming in from the other two), as well as an opportunity to explore multiple interests.
