Research Study Description

Hello! We are the Communication and Neurodevelopment Lab at Boston University. The purpose of our Speech and Language Autism Study is to better understand speech, language, and listening skills in children with and without autism.

What is involved?:
This study involves a total of 2-3 in person sessions, each session will take approximately 2.5 hours. Your child will complete paper-and-pencil and computer-based activities that involve seeing, listening, and responding to sounds, words, sentences. Parents will be asked to complete background questionnaires. Your child will complete a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) session to measure your child’s brain structure and function.

You may be eligible if:
Your child may be eligible if they have an ASD diagnosis, is or will soon be 8-10 years old, has been exposed to English since birth, and is speaking and can communicate independently without the use of an assistive device.

What will I receive if I participate?:
We will cover parking/public transportation expenses required for participation in this study. We offer flexible scheduling, including weekday afternoons and weekends. You will receive $50 gift cards for each study session completed. You will also receive an individualized summary of participation to guide understanding of your child’s language development and images of your child’s brain.
